~Writing~
Developing strong writing skills will be important for student success. In addition to practicing editing skills throughout the year, students will hone their writing skills through Quick Writes and put them on display in Narrative writing assignments.
Quick Writes will challenge students to think creatively and craft part of a story without planning beforehand. Each Quick Write will push students out of their comfort zones by tasking them with using a provided image and story prompt. Students are not expected to produce a full story. Instead, the primary focus is to encourage students to explore their creativity and try new things. Ideas and strategies they discover through Quick Writes can be applied in future narratives where planning and editing are part of the process.

Narratives allow students to fully explore their creativity in writing. Prior to writing, we will be reviewing important elements of fiction, including: setting, character, types of conflict, plot, dialogue, symbolism, foreshadowing and flashback. Students will also be introduced to new writing skills like in medias res and cliffhangers.
Fantasy Map Making & Historical Document
Students planned out their landforms by spreading rice on paper, then traced these out. Then, they've spend time adding more detail to their maps. These will be used as inspiration for major creative writing assignments throughout the year. Up first, students will create and write a mock historical document for the world they've created.
