~About Mr. B~
I was born in Ottawa, Ontario, but grew up in Aylmer, Quebec. After graduating from D'Arcy McGee High School (2004), I received my DEC in Liberal Arts from CEGEP Heritage College (2007) and my Bachelor of Arts with Specialization in English Literature from the University of Ottawa (2010). Upon completing my Bachelor's degree, I returned to D'Arcy/Symmes where I served as a supply teacher and volunteer coach. In 2015, I received my Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Ottawa. I have been teaching at South Hull since August 2015 as a Cycle 3 teacher.
I am passionate about teaching students and helping foster a desire for youth to become lifelong learners and positive contributors to their school and the community. I am constantly striving to improve my teaching practice by implementing new and engaging ways to educate my students. I dedicate my time and energy to finding the best possible approach to teaching each of my students so that they can all achieve success in an enjoyable and engaging manner. I believe in fostering intangible skills like work ethic, teamwork, school pride, and self-worth in order to help my students achieve and maintain success long after they leave my classroom.

I am organized and believe in developing open dialogue with both students and parents. In the classroom, I encourage students to practice growth mindset, an approach that encourages students to understand that they can meet their goals through a positive approach and dedication to hard work every day. I believe in learning cooperatively in an inclusive environment founded on mutual respect.

I believe it is vital that teachers participate in extracurriculars and school committees in order to build strong relationships with students and the school community, as well as to help support and develop a positive school culture. As such, I strive to stay as involved as possible: in 2016, I launched our school's Not in my School project; in 2018, I launched the South Hull News, and I've served as a basketball coach since arriving at South Hull.

Additionally, I do my best to stay actively involved in a number of committees at our school, including: Home & School, Governing Board, School Council, AVAB and Code of Conduct, Golden Committee, Resource, ICT, Terry Fox Run, and Graduation. I am also responsible for operating our school's website and Twitter account. I also LOVE making videos to celebrate our students and various events at our school, including: Back to School, Terry Fox, Graduation, and our monthly News episodes, to name a few.
From 2010 to 2020, I served as a coach in the Outaouais region. I coached Benjamin boys basketball at Symmes Junior High School for five consecutive seasons, including an undefeated regional championship season in 2012-2013. During my time at D'Arcy/Symmes, I also coached Cadet boys basketball and girls flag football for one season, respectively. In 2015, I decided to leave D'Arcy/Symmes to take on a new challenge in accepting the position of assistant coach with the CEGEP Heritage Hurricanes women's basketball program through the 2018-2019 season. I also served as the team's head coach in 2019-2020.

Following the 2019-2020 season, I made the difficult decision to step away from coaching to better focus on my role and the many hats I wear at South Hull. I continue to look forward to taking things I've learned from coaching into the classroom and while working with the talented student-athletes at South Hull as well.
